Waivers, groups and the door: running workshop day without a clipboard
Reviewed: 2026-08-09
The waiver is typed before payment and the booking is refused without it, but the record names one signer per ORDER however many places it covers. A group booking creates a roster, and a place with nobody named on it is refused at the door. Fill the roster in before the day, and check the door list in the console rather than a clipboard.
What does the typed signature actually record?
The person's name as they typed it, the exact wording of the waiver they were shown, the time, a digest of that wording so a later edit to your text is detectable, and a retention period of 36 months. The record is written inside the same database transaction as the payment, which is the part that matters: it exists for exactly the bookings whose money moved, and a booking that fails to pay leaves no stray acceptance behind.
It is also refused rather than requested. A maker cannot complete a booking without typing their name — that is checked on the money path and not merely marked required on the form, so a hand-posted request without it fails the same way. What you do not get is a copy by email: nothing sends the signer a PDF, so if you want makers to hold one, tell them to save the page.
Does every maker on a booking sign?
No, and this is worth knowing before your insurer asks. The signature is collected once per ORDER, from the person paying, so a parent booking two places at a candle-making class signs once and the second maker has signed nothing in bindro. The acceptance record names one signer regardless of how many places the order covers.
If your insurance requires a signature from each participant, collect the others the way you did before bindro — on paper at the bench, or through whatever waiver service you already use — and treat the bindro record as covering the booker. Saying this plainly costs us a sentence of marketing and saves a studio a very bad conversation.
- One typed signature per order, from the person paying.
- The record keeps signer, wording, timestamp, digest and a 36-month retention.
- No copy is emailed to the signer.
- No minimum age by default: a date enforces one only once you set a lowest age on it under "Who this date suits".
What happens when one person books places for a group?
A booking of more than one place creates a roster: the person who paid becomes the captain and gets a link where they can name each maker, or send each place on to the person taking it so they fill in their own name and answers. One place, one row, and filling a place in never creates an extra one.
Here is the part that decides Saturday. A place with nobody named on it is refused at check-in and does not appear on the door list at all. A hen party of eight booked under one name, with the roster left empty, is one maker who gets in and seven who do not. Chase the captain during the week — the link is in their confirmation email, and it takes them two minutes.
- More than one place on an order creates a roster with one row per place.
- The captain can type each name or send each place to its own maker.
- An unnamed place is refused at the door and is not on the manifest.
- There is no group RATE — price a party workshop as its own ticket type.
How does the door work on the day?
Open the day-of page in the console. It shows the session, who is booked, live numbers as people arrive, and the walk-up sale form. Makers arrive with the code from their confirmation email, on a phone or printed, and you scan or tick them off by name — this vertical's door is a name list rather than a turnstile, which suits a room of twelve.
Two operational notes. A code admits once for a workshop place: scanned again, it reads as already used, so a maker stepping out is waved back by you. And there is no offline mode in this vertical: the door needs a connection, so if your studio's signal is unreliable, plan for that — check people in on the studio wifi rather than mobile data, and keep the roster filled in so you are not trying to reconcile names on the day.
Can I still take somebody who turns up without booking?
Yes, by card, from the same day-of page. A door sale takes a real hold on the session and carries you into the ordinary checkout, so the price comes from the same code as an online booking, the waiver is still signed, the card is captured properly and the maker leaves with a code that scans. It is a genuine sale, not a note to reconcile later.
What you cannot do is record a place paid for in cash. That refusal is deliberate: crediting your balance for money the platform never held would pay you twice for the same place at the next payout. Cash you take at the door is simply yours, and stays outside bindro entirely — as does anything you sell over a counter, since this vertical has no till.
- Walk-up sales are card-only and run the ordinary checkout end to end.
- The waiver, the price and the code are identical to an online booking.
- There is no cash-recorded sale and no counter-sales page.
- Kits and firing fees can be sold as add-ons on a booking, with their own stock.
What should I take away?
- The waiver is typed and refused if missing, and the record keeps the wording, a digest and 36 months of retention.
- One signature covers the whole order — a booking of four places carries one signer, not four.
- A group booking creates a roster, and any place left unnamed is refused at the door.
- The door is a name list with live numbers, online-only, and a place admits once.
- Walk-ups are real card sales through the ordinary checkout; cash cannot be recorded at all.
